Frank Aston is a guard in the house of Baron Ceston and life was going pretty good. Then he meets Lady Jacqueline, the Baron’s 19 year old, beautiful yet terribly spoiled daughter and she demands he become her bodyguard. Frank soon finds out, that isn’t as simple as it sounds. Introduced to Dr. Naran, he is place in her care for several weeks during which time, she will learn everything about him. From his deepest fears and most intimate thoughts, Frank will bear all to her. However, in return, through her ability to control minds, Dr. Naran gives Frank all the memories of things he needs to adequately protect Lady Jacqueline. After going through weeks of torturous training, he is forever changed and left unable to do anything that would hurt Lady Jacqueline, even indirectly.
The Baron, concerned for the safety of his daughter after an attempt on her life, doesn’t feel a bodyguard alone is enough, so he has a sphere created that will enable Frank to watch her every move whether he is with her or not. Lady Jacqueline, furious over being watched 24/7 even in her most intimate moments attempts to control Frank, as she does every man in her life, with her sexuality. Although, Frank is subjected to extreme sensual torture from Lady Jacqueline, he seems to be, in spite of the mind control, the one man she can’t bend to her will. When Frank discovers Lady Jacqueline isn’t what she seems to be, he is caught in a web of lies and deceit where he finds nothing he has know to be true is what is seems.
A warning for readers of erotic romance, this is not your typical romance. If sex without the deep emotional connection offends you, this may not be the book for you. That said, I found this book to be a stimulating, engrossing and at times very sensual read. Scorch has a little bit of everything. Action, adventure, political intrigue, and lots of great sex scenes. The sex scenes were very well written, and though the sex is obviously used to demonstrate power over another, I never found that they were gratuitous; instead I felt that the story, as it was, shaped the actions of the characters. Frank's character is very well defined and his emotional turmoil throughout the entire book is clear, as are his feelings for Lady Jacqueline. Her feelings are a complete mystery. I never, until the end, could get a good handle on what she was really feeling, and found myself just as unable to trust her as Frank did, which truly makes for an excellent suspense right up until the end of the story. If you are up for a great Sci Fi suspense story with lots of sex and a bit of not so typical romance then this is a good choice. This is an excellent first book from Master Nage and I think he has a great future ahead as a writer, I just hope he turns some of his ability to write great sex towards true erotic romance, I think he would do a great job!

Lady Jacqueline, spoiled daughter of the baron, takes a liking to Frank Aston after he saves her from an attempt on her life, and she insists that he be her new bodyguard. After going through a process of mind control, Frank is reprogrammed to become a sort of robot able to retrieve the knowledge he needs when necessary to protect his charge. The baron, not content with this, decides to have a remote sphere follow Lady Jacqueline around so Frank can see her every move in any situation, even the intimate ones.
Lady Jacqueline sees Frank as just another tool to get what she wants. Accustomed to dominating men, sometimes cruelly, to achieve what she wants, Frank finds he is no different. She taunts him with her body and casts him off when she is done. But when Frank starts to figure things out, Lady Jacqueline finds she may have met her match.
This book is much more erotic fiction than erotic romance. The plot is very complex and extremely interesting. You will find enough twists and turns to keep you interested through the entire book. What you won’t find is seduction and romance. This book is at times dark and disturbing. It is not for everyone. Lady Jacqueline is a spoiled and manipulative woman you will love to hate. Frank Aston is a man caught up in more deception than he ever dreamed possible. The sex in this book is based on psychological domination, including humiliation. I found the scenes to be erotic, although not romantic. They fit perfectly in this story. I also found the author’s writing style a bit technical, but it worked well with the story since it wasn’t really a romance. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was completely different than anything I have ever read.
